Stephanie West Allen
Hi, Liz. I wrote a book about creating your own funeral or memorial service which continues to sell very well. After doing so, I studied all kinds of related matters about death and dying -- including the lighter side. I created a site and I have not updated it for years (for some reason it stays online) but there are still some good links and articles there.

I was recently interviewed by a reporter about creating your own funeral and what I wanted for mine. My mother's comments included: "Stephanie, the neighbors are going to read this!"

I don't think the link to it works anymore but I could probably get it into pdf if you wanted.

On the Internet, I met a great guy who designs coffins for people -- they use them for liquor cabinets or book shelves or coffee tables until they need them for the "other use." We traded my book for his T-shirts that say "Bert and Bud's Vintage Coffins: Don't be caught dead without one" or "We put the fun back in funerals." I had already been using the fun and funerals phrase before we ran into each other as I am a humor writer and people could not quite understand the connection between my humor stuff and my funeral book. Anyway, if a person wants a very interesting day of interactions, wear a T-shirt like that. I could write a book on the reactions I have gotten.

I think their URL is www.vintagecoffins.com. If not, let me know and I will find the right one.

The boomers are rewriting the face of funerals and fun is part of what they are injecting.

Best of luck with what sounds like a great project.

Stephanie
